I was going to make a yummy salad for dinner tomorrow...
My cute neighbor brought us part of her beautiful harvest tonight. I was so excited to get some fresh produce since Randy and I didn't get to plant a garden this year. My cucumber didn't even make it to the fridge. Claire laid claim on it and DEVOURED the whole thing in a matter of minutes. I guess I will make a salad minus the cucumber.

Pioneer Day
We went to SL to celebrate Pioneer Day. My parents had a BBQ, swimming pool, and fireworks. She made ribs in the dutch oven and grilled corn on the cob. It was tasty. The kids spent most of the day in the swimming pool soaking up the 100 degree weather.
For desert my uncle Matt and Aunt Kristie made Brigham Young's famous cake donuts. I ate at least 5 of them.
Steven lit the fireworks with a blowtorch and gave us quite the firework show.
We had a great weekend!!!
Happy Pioneer Day.

bride to be
All the fisher girls threw the final Fischer bridal shower. The Fischer clan is complete. I could not ask for a better group of sister in laws.
Kamie came up with the yummy treat. We had chocolate waffles with ice cream and fruit. It was divine and it looked beautiful too.
The next generation of brides grew tired of the chatty grown ups and stayed outside.
We are so happy for Uncle matt and his choice for a bride to be.

Where are the hippos??
We took the kids to the local Zoo after I got off work a little early last week. It is small but really cute and well taken care of. Last year we bought Brad a season pass for the Hogle Zoo...so he is somewhat of an expert on Zoo inventory. He wanted to know where they were hiding all of the big animals. He was left wanting more. To keep him from spoiling it for Claire we bribed him with the playground next door. He agreed and played along. Claire was so excited to see all the animals. We had to pry her from one exhibit to see the next. She was way impressed.
We packed a bologna sandwich dinner and played at the park. It is a good my kids are not old enough to notice being surrounded by much better food than bologna. I was the only one who felt deprived….especially the CafĂ©’ Rio smells from the bench across the way. Not a single mom had packed lunch. I was quite surprised.
While the kids played on the playground some older kids came along. Brad is the most social kid I know, so naturally he approached them and invited them to play. He just wanted to be their friend. Instead the punk kids were mean and said some unkind things to him. He came over to us sobbing. I felt so bad. He is so tender. I mothered him and told him it was okay and to just try to be nice to them. Randy interjected his fatherly advice and says “No way, if kids are being mean punch them in the face”… Brads face lit up and I shot Randy the “great, how are you going to dig yourself out of that big comment hole” look. Luckily Brad didn’t take either one of his parents dumb advice and compromised. He stood up for himself and told the kid he didn’t want to play with him because he could always find someone else to play with and to stay away from him. I was so proud.
I think there is such a fine line when it comes to helping your children through social interaction. It is hard to teach kindness but also confidence and sticking up for yourself. Apparently both Randy and I suck at it. Glad Brad figured it out for himself.

Randomness
-I have been on a minor hiatus for the last few weeks. (Computer vacation). Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Usually when I don’t post I at least have time to read blogs. I have not even touched the computer. I think it is healthy to unattended the cyber world occasionally. I am now refreshed and back in the saddle.
-Our REALLY good friends came to spend the night with us 2 weekends ago. It was so good to see them and catch up. I miss them something terrible. We lived next door at the duplex. We spent a lot of time together so it was hard when we moved. We took a long walk with the kids in the evening. We tried to convince them to come and be our next door neighbors again. I think the country roads and beautiful sunset almost convinced them.
-Randy’s parents came to visit last week. They came on Sunday and left Thursday. The kids were so excited when they pulled their trailer in the backyard. They got to come and see Brad’s last T-Ball game. Brad was so cute. Every time he was up to bat he had to look around to make sure Nanny and Papa were watching.
-Claire is starting to talk a lot. Every day she surprises us with a new word or expression. Her new word is “happy” If you make a frowny face, she will get right up close and say happy over and over until you crack a smile. She is also really good at testing her limits. We have started doing time out. She is really good at sitting there with her arms folded but she looks around with a little smirk on her face. I don’t think time outs are going to work with her. We will see.
-Brad loves living here. He has such golden brown skin from spending so much time outdoors. Every night he comes in smelling sweaty and dirty. His toenails are ALWAYS caked in dirt. He is getting excited to go to school this fall. His kindergarten teacher sent him a letter and he can hardly contain his excitement.
-Randy has had a couple of really good job interviews this last week. Keep up the prayers. We are truly seeing the blessings of prayer and faith. I will keep you posted.
-My work is going well. It is still very hard for me to get up and leave my kids every morning. Sometimes it is hard not to complain and stay positive. I am doing my best. I think it has been good for Randy too. I come home and he looks beat. I don’t know what has been more motivating for him to find a job, the kids or the housework. He sometimes looks as though he has been run over by a bus. He is so good with our kids. He is an awesome dad and husband. I just think he is ready to give me back housewife status.

Bear Lake - 4th of July
We went to Bear Lake to celebrate the 4th of July. It was a much needed relaxing vacation. The weather for the most part was overcast and sometimes chilly. We stayed inside most of the time. It was so nice to sit and visit and EAT. I know I gained a few inches last weekend. Randy and the boys played in a golf tournament. The girls played games and chatted.
We drove back to Logan on Friday night to watch fireworks. Logan was not meant to accommodate a lot of traffic. It took us an hour to drive a few blocks after the show. The kids had a blast. It was a long night and they were dead asleep as soon as we got in the car to drive back to the cabin.
